May 14th...Hiking the tallest mountain in Seoul

Bukhansan Mountain.  836m (2,742ft)
When the employees saw what we were wearing, they looked at us (especially Stefany) up-and-down because we weren't wearing hiking gear.  You'll see in the pictures what Koreans' wear!! Yes, we were under-dressed.

Walking up to the base of the mountain.

Here we go.  Not really knowing what we're getting ourselves into!!!

SIU!!!  Would you believe, as we were walking up the trail, we met 2 Americans.  The female went to ISU and she said they couldn't make it to the top and warned us.  Silly Redbird, go SALUKIS!

Locals taking a rest.  You can't really see their hiking attire, but they came prepared!

Ahhhh, yes.  Locals that came prepared.  Full hiking attire.  Now we see why the employees looked us up-and-down!!!  Let's see if we can do it.

Various pictures of our view and beautiful scenery....

Not appropriate hiking gear and by no means good shoes!!

The rock next to us, men were repelling.  We were going to be higher then them.
Maybe you can see the men on this rock, repelling.

Must keep going....not there yet.

A view of Seoul.  Looking South.

"Are we there yet?"

With about 800 meters to go, and not wearing hiking boots, we really relied on these cables and arm strength to pull us up.

No time to celebrate.  Still not at the top.  Just a picture opportunity and a chance to catch our breathe.

In a little over 2 hours, we made it to the top!!!!  Russel couldn't let go of the railing.  It was a beautiful sight!!  Totally worth the time and effort!

Russel is hanging on to the railing.  Stefany, "look mom, no hands!"

On the very top, there is a big rock.  Stefany climbed on top to take more pictures of the TOP of the TOP!!

Looking over at the rock with repellers.

Starting our way down....

After about 3 1/2 hours, we reached the bottom.

We returned home at about 8:15pm.  We showed and headed out to enjoy nice hospitality from Derrick and Gina Go (all of that is their "American" names).

Gina and Yoonwha heating up spaghetti.
The boys chillin'

Time to eat.

Our hosts: Gina and Derrick Go

Dessert: mini ice cream bars (strawberry and chocolate) on the left and a box of ice cream squares (all are vanilla).  Very portion-size appropriate.

We learned that all Koreans have a kimche refrigerator.  Kimche is made in large quantities in Nov.- Dec.  It is then  kept in these tupperware-like plastic bins, which are stored in the kimche fridge.  It is the only thing kept in here, separate from all other chilled food.
