Upon arriving, we started by getting lunch. This day is spent in Jung-Song's home town, Youngwol.
Shoes off, sitting on the floor to eat. Korean-style.
Sides with every meal.
Kimche, radishes, peppers and a paste.
Sing-he and Stefany
A tofu consistency, made of acorns. This town is known for acorns, and squirrels. : )
Yummy soup that we shared.
After lunch we headed to a Cave.
Gossi Cave was named so
because Go, Jong Won and his family from Donggang Village evacuated
to this cave during the Japanese Invasion of 1592.
Back, outside the cave. Heading back to the car for our next stop.
Korean Melon
An old boat.
First stop we needed hard hats. This stop, we need life vests.
Ready.....for.......
...a dangerous ride in a van. : )
Waiting....
Helmets needed just in case we fell on the rocks. Just kidding.
Yeongwol’s Donggang River (river length: 60km) in Gangwon-do is often
compared to China’s Gyerim River, with its own picturesque scenery, and
is generally recognized as one of the best rafting courses for beginners
and family rafting in Korea.
RAFTING!!!
Several pictures as we went down the river. This is where we learned how to count to 4, in Korean.
"Hanna, due, set, net" for our rows.
Our guide down the river.
Our host, Sing-he.
The boys: Russel and Jung-Song
We passed up 3 rafts of high-schoolers.
Sorry for the crooked helmet.
A beautiful day!
Why is Jung-Song taking off his helmet? He's going to get hurt!!!
Nope! Jung-Song back flipped into the river!....so we all did!
Except Sung-he, who took this picture.
After a shower and changing, we get back in the car. Going home????
No to a look-out point. We've included some pics.
The city of Youngwol.
Our hosts prepared a light picnic overlooking the city of Youngwol.
Dinner.
Sides.
Mushrooms.
Vegetable bibimbap. So good. And, what we heard several times while in Korea re: various dishes, "its healthy."
